One of 6,310 examples of the Series 62 Convertible built in 1954, chassis number 546231558 offered here was originally freighted to Cadillac’s Tank Plant in Cleveland, Ohio, per the accompanying copy of the factory build sheet. Reportedly sold new via Swisher Cadillac of Mansfield, the car was first owned by the proprietor of a local taxi company. Accordingly, they specified Apollo Gold paintwork—complemented by Light Green and White leather upholstery plus a Black cabriolet top—to smartly match the livery of the cabs in their fleet. The car was also configured with E-Z Eye Glass, a heater, and a radio.

The Cadillac remained in the Ohioan city across its next four owners before being acquired by noted collector John Staluppi, founder of the Atlantic Auto Group, in 1994 to join his 150-strong stable of automobiles. In keeping with Brooklyn-born Mr. Staluppi’s high standards, this Series 62 Convertible was submitted for a meticulous restoration that spanned a staggering 15 years and required approximately 6,000 hours of labor. The body-off rebuild commenced in 2001, with 650 hours alone being dedicated to overhauling the interior, the trunk, and the folding top. At this time, the Cadillac was fitted with its current Green fabric roof. Not only does this more neatly tie in with the cabin trim, but, authentically, it was one of five color choices offered to customers in 1954.

Prior to completion in 2016, the 331-cubic-inch V-8 engine (which was rated by Cadillac at 230 brake horsepower) and four-speed Hydramatic automatic gearbox were also rebuilt. Other notable upgrades include the powder-coated seat frames, the replacing of the door and trunk cardboard backing with aluminum, the fitment of new and correctly scripted glass, plus the installation of a stainless-steel exhaust system. Chassis 546231558 was then purchased by a new owner in January 2019 and, following a stint in Montana, was acquired by the consignor in March 2024.

Boasting its factory-correct paint and interior color combination, this Series 62 Convertible is likely to be just as at ease with impressing discerning crowds at displays and events as it is touring in comfort and considerable style.
