The Walk-Around & Drive-By

Driven sparingly since undergoing a ground-up nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration, this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS is a big-block 4-speed high performance symbol of its time and the people who created it. The influential burgundy intermediate convertible wears its stainless and chrome trim well and packs a heavyweight punch under the hood. The matching-numbers 396 CI V-8 sends 360 HP through a 4-speed manual transmission, and 12-bolt Positraction gets power down to the ground for dual tire stripe takeoffs. Power steering and power disc brakes deliver factory engineered road handling, and dual exhaust belts out an unmistakable Chevy soundtrack. Super Sport and checkered flag fender badging bring it all together with peak mid-'60s style.

Lowering the power-operated black top unveils a black Super Sport interior with factory-correct Strato-Bucket front seats and a center floor shift console with an electric clock and storage. An aluminum and simulated walnut sports-styled steering wheel and sport instrumentation with ammeter, temperature and oil pressure gauges and 7000 RPM knee-knocker sweeper tachometer supply maximum big-block three-pedal entertainment. Rarely optioned Four-Season factory air conditioning and correct loop carpeting add living room comfort. The Chevelle SS rolls on steel wheels and Coker Redline tires topped with the original mag hubcaps that look remarkably similar to the tiny facsimiles on the original 1968 Hot Wheels lineup.
